Costa Rica secures ticket in the final
PUERTO CORTÉS, Honduras. November 3, 2018 - The two Costa Rican
couples will meet in the semifinals of the men's tournament of
the XI Central American Sub-21 Beach Volleyball Championship,
while Nicaragua and Guatemala will face each other in the other
semifinal.
In Group A, Allan Obando/Andrés Valenciano (CRC 2) finished
unbeaten with four wins, two on Saturday 2-1 (21-18, 11-21,
15-13) against Wagner Chacón and Edgard Maldonado, of Guatemala,
and 2-0 (24-22, 21-18) against Honduras 1 (Adonis Rodríguez/Irvin
Reyes).
In second place was the Chacón/Maldonado pair with a 3-1 record,
after overcoming in a thrilling match 2-1 (21-15, 19-21, 15-10)
Cristofer Cascante/Sergio Cordero (NCA 2).
In third place were Cascante/Cordero with 2-2 in victories and
defeats, Honduras 1 with 1-3 and El Salvador 1 (Hermanos
Guardado) with 0-4.
In Group B, Denis López and Jefferson Cascante, of Nicaragua,
finished unbeaten by defeating 2-0 (21-10, 21-9) to Belize with
Joseph Carnegie and Aldair Peña. Then they won 2-0 (21-10,
21-12) to Kevin Herrera/Kenny Fernandez, of Honduras 2 and
closed with a 2-0 win (21-15, 21-14) against Diego Ascencio/Rolando
Ávalos of El Salvador two.
In second place were Criforth Fallas and Alexandre Lezcano (CRC
1) who added a 2-0 win (21-13, 21-15) against Belize on Saturday
and finished with 3-1.
The third place in group B was for Herrera/Fernández, from
Honduras, with 2-2 and Peña/Carnegie, from Belize, with 1-3,
Ávalos/Ascencio from El Salvador with 0-4.
The semifinals will be between Allan Obando/Andrés Valenciano (CRC
2) and Criforth Fallas and Alexandre Lezcano (CRC 1), while
Denis López and Jefferson Cascante (NCA 1) will face Wagner
Chacón and Edgard Maldonado, from Guatemala. |
