Costa Rican leader William Corrales passes away
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, May 28, 2017 – NORCECA
Confederation deeply regrets to inform that Mr. William Corrales
Araya, former president of the Costa Rican National Volleyball
Federation passed away on Saturday. He was 70 years-old.
Mr. Corrales, a lawyer with also a degree in Physical Education,
occupied the position of Minister of Sports of Costa Rica
(2012-2016) and was a representative in the parliament of his
country for the period (1986-90). He also presided over the
Costa Rican Cycling Federation and was a member of the National
Council of Sports.
Despite being affected by a heart condition for the past few
years, Mr. Corrales Araya he stayed very active in the sport
activities.
“William Corrales was a much appreciated member of our
volleyball family who always was ready to express his points of
view to contribute to NORCECA institutional development,” said
NORCECA president Cristobal Marte Hoffiz. “We have lost a good
friend who will be missed.”
The funerals will take place on Sunday at Catedral of Ciudad
Quesada. He is survived by his widow Mrs Jenny Chacon and three
children. |
