Costa Ricans Morales and Alfaro win gold at home
SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, March 9, 2013 – Costa Ricans Ingrid
Morales and Natalia Alfaro delighted the local fans with a
luxury performance to win the crown of women’s beach volleyball
of the X Central American Games with a 2-0 (21-14, 21-11)
victory over Elia Torrez and Swan Mendoza of Nicaragua on
Saturday.
Morales/Alfaro finished the tournament with an undefeated record
in ten outings without conceding a single set en route to the
gold medal.
“This triumph is of Costa Rica, that’s the only thing I can say
at this moment,” Morales said after celebrating with the fans.
“We wanted to present this gift to the fans. I don’t think we
are superiors, what happened in the court it is only the result
of hard work.”
“We knew that Nicaragua was elevating their level and it was
going to be a complicated game, but playing as locals was a
decisive factor,” Morales added.
Alfaro said: “We told you that we were here to win the gold
medal, we trained hard to get that, we were prepared and
dedicate it to the people of Costa Rica. We thank God for this
medal that we wanted so much.”
In the match for third place and the bronze medal, Ingrid Lopez
and Lourdes Ramirez of Guatemala defeated Diana Romero and Maria
Vargas of El Salvador 2-0 (21-14, 21-17). |
