GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, March 13, 2016 - Trevor and Taylor
Crabb of United States-B won the men’s gold in a spectacular
match against Mexico’s Jose Luis Rubio and Josue Gaxiola by 2-1
(25-23, 31-33, 17-15) at the first stage of the 2016 NORCECA
Beach Volleyball Tour in Ciudad Cayala, Guatemala.
Both tandems excelled from start to finish. Crabb brothers
showed consistency and a calm mood, engaging in back and forth
points against while the Mexican duo displayed outstanding
defensive skills. The crowd enjoyed exciting rallies up to the
last point.
This is Trevor and Taylor second NORCECA event as they played in
lasts year´s St. Lucia stage also winning the gold.
Trevor commented: “It’s the toughest match of our career
together. The Mexican team played really well and we were neck
to neck the entire match. The tournament was ran well and we
hope the next four that we are scheduled to go are the same.
Taylor said that the final match was harder than they expected.
“We didn’t give up and we were grinding until the end, it was
really tough”.
Crabb brothers advance to the finals prevailing over Stafford
Slick and William Allen of United States-A 2-0 (21-19, 21-15) in
the first semifinal.
In the second semifinal, Mexico’s Rubio and Gaxiola faced Daneil
Williams and Fabien Whitfield of Trinidad and Tobago, they’ve
met in pool-play but this time Mexico took the win 2-1 (17-21,
21-16, 15-12).
Winners of the bronze medal were Stafford Slick and William
Allen of United States-A defeating Williams/Whitfield of TTO 2-0
(21-14, 21-13).
