Criollas One Win Away from LVSF Final After
Dominating Leonas in Caguas
CAGUAS, Puerto Rico, April 17, 2026 – The Criollas de Caguas are now
just one victory away from advancing to the Final Series of the
Women’s Superior Volleyball League (LVSF) after defending their home
court, the Roger Mendoza Vidal Coliseum, for the third consecutive
time against a determined Leonas de Ponce squad, taking a 3-2 lead
in Semifinal Series B.
Caguas avenged Thursday’s loss at the Juan “Pachín” Vicéns
Auditorium — where they fell in straight sets — and this time
claimed all three sets, 28-26, 25-21, 25-20.
The
opening set was the most tightly contested, extending into extra
points with constant ties from 18 up to 26. That dramatic finish
allowed the Criollas to secure the set after a service error by
Claire Chaussee and a solid block by Diana Carolina Reyes on Nataly
García.
In
the next two sets, the home team was in full control. Caguas
dominated all technical timeouts and, in the third, took a 21-17
lead thanks to a successful spike by Temi Thomas from position two.
The
team reached set point at 24-20 when the Leonas failed on three
offensive attempts, and Alba Hernández sealed the set with a block
on Abigail Akey Hansen.
In
team statistics, Caguas led in blocks (7-5) and service aces (3-2).
Ponce, meanwhile, had the edge in attacks (41-38), digs (50-49),
receptions (46-35), and assists (14-8).
The
Criollas’ offense was distributed among Genesis Collazo (12 points),
Jenaisya Moore (11), and Temi Thomas Ailara (10). For Leonas, Claire
Chaussee and Sherridan Atkinson contributed 14 and 11 points,
respectively.
The
series continues this Sunday with Game 6 at the Juan “Pachín” Vicéns
Auditorium at 7:00 p.m.
In
the other semifinal, action resumes this Saturday, April 18, with
Game 4 at the Rafael G. Amalbert court, where the Valencianas de
Juncos (0-3) host the Cangrejeras de Santurce (3-0) at 8:30 p.m. |
