Criollas Prevail in Caguas and Regain the Lead in LVSF Semifinal B
CAGUAS, Puerto Rico, April 14, 2026.- The Criollas de Caguas made
the most of their home court at the Roger Mendoza Vidal Coliseum and
regained control of Semifinal Series B of the Women’s Superior
Volleyball League (LVSF) with a commanding 3-0 (27-25, 25-21, 25-18)
victory over the Leonas de Ponce in the third match.
With
the win, Caguas moves back into the lead in the best-of-seven
series, where the first team to reach four victories advances to the
championship round. The series will continue this Thursday at the
Pachín Vicéns Auditorium starting at 8:00 p.m.
The
match was essentially decided in the opening set, when Ponce
couldn’t hold on to a 17-11 lead following a block by Jenselyn
Morales on Temi Thomas-Ailara. Caguas responded with a 9-3 run to
tie the score at 20, capitalizing on an attacking error by Sherridan
Atkinson.
After the final tie at 25, Caguas closed out the set thanks to two
consecutive errors by the Leonas: an attack error by Claire Chaussee
from zone four and a double contact called by head referee David
Reyes.
From
that point on, the home team kept control and handled the next two
sets without major difficulty to secure the straight-sets victory.
Caguas made the difference at the net with a 10-4 advantage in
blocks and also led in service aces 6-2. Both teams recorded 37
kills, while Ponce led in digs (56-50), receptions (39-30), and sets
(27-9).
The
Criollas’ offense was led by Temi Thomas-Ailara with 15 points,
followed by Diana Reyes with 12 and Jenaisya Moore with 10. For
Leonas, Jenselyn Morales led the way with 10 points.
The
other semifinal series between Santurce and Juncos remains on hold
as the reconsideration request submitted by Santurce’s management is
under review. The final decision will be key in determining the
schedule leading up to the championship series. |
