Criollas Return to Second Place with Four-Set Victory
CAGUAS, Puerto Rico, March 8, 2026. – The closing of the eighth week
in the Women’s Volleyball Superior League (LVSF) saw the Criollas de
Caguas claim a 3-1 victory (25-23, 25-21, 17-25, 25-23) over the
Atenienses de Manatí at Coliseo Roger Mendoza.
With
the win, the Criollas snapped a three-match losing streak and moved
up to second place in the standings after earning three points.
In
the fourth set, Caguas took the lead at the second technical
timeout, 16-15, following a service error by Emily Elliot. In the
final stretch, the Criollas broke a 19-19 tie with a zone-four spike
by Valeria Flores, followed by an attack violation by Karla Santos
from the back row.
Then, a zone-two attack by Elliot that hit the net and another
offensive error by the Atenienses pushed the score to 23-19. The
Criollas reached set point at 24-22 with Génesis Collazo scoring
from zone two and sealed the set and the match 25-23 with a quick
attack by Diana Reyes.
Caguas’ offense was led by Jenaisya Moore and Reyes with 19 and 13
points, respectively. For Manatí, Elliot led all scorers with 32
points (31 attacks and one ace), followed by Santos with 21.
With
the victory, Caguas improved to a 9-10 record and 29 total points,
moving ahead of Pinkin de Corozal, who dropped to third place with a
9-8 record and 27 points.
The
Cangrejeras de Santurce remain the undefeated leaders of the
tournament 16-0 with 45 points. The Atenienses stay in fourth place
with a 7-11 record and 21 accumulated points.
Week
nine of the LVSF begins Tuesday, March 10, when the Cangrejeras de
Santurce visit the Leonas de Ponce at Cancha Salvador Dijols at 8:00
