Criollas prevail in Ponce and remain atop the LVSF standings
PONCE, Puerto Rico, January 31, 2026. – In the only match of the
Women’s Volleyball Superior League (LVSF), the Criollas de Caguas
defeated the Leonas de Ponce 3-1 (25-18, 17-25, 25-23, 25-23) at the
Salvador Dijols court, earning all three points available from the
match.
With
the contest tied at one set apiece, the Criollas took control of the
third set with a 21-16 run, sparked by a service ace from Jenaisya
Moore and an attack error by Nataly García. Caguas reached set point
at 24-21 following a Leonas service error and closed the set 25-23
with a successful spike from zone two by Génesis Collazo to take a
two-sets-to-one lead.
In
the fourth set, Ponce rallied from behind with a 6-3 surge to tie
the set at 22. They later evened it again at 23 with a precise
attack from zone two by Gloria Mutiri. However, Caguas regained
control and sealed the set, and the victory, capitalizing on a
service error by Paola Matos and another mistake by Jordan Wilson
attacking from the back row.
The
Criollas outblocked the Leonas 18-9, while Ponce held the advantage
in attacks (57-43), service aces (9-5), digs (85-72), and receptions
(41-26).
Caguas’ offense was led by Jenaisya Moore with 20 points, followed
by Alexandra Sczech with 14 and Diana Reyes with 11. For Ponce,
Gloria Mutiri topped the scoring with 19 points, followed by Jordan
Wilson (15), Abby Akey (14), and Andrea Serra (11).
With
the three points earned, the Criollas remain at the top of the
standings with a 6-1 record and 16 points, while the Leonas dropped
to 2-4 with five points.
LVSF
action continues this Sunday with the conclusion of the third week
of competition, as the Cangrejeras de Santurce (2-0, 5 points) visit
the Pinkin de Corozal (3-2, 10 points) at the Carmen Z. Figueroa
court starting at 7:00 p.m. |
