Criollas secure second place; Cangrejeras close
regular season undefeated
CAGUAS, Puerto Rico, March 18, 2026. – While the Cangrejeras de
Santurce defeated the Atenienses de Manatí in four sets at Coliseo
Juan Aubín Cruz to finish the Women’s Volleyball Superior League (LVSF)
regular season undefeated, at Coliseo Roger Mendoza Vidal the
Criollas de Caguas did their part and earned the points needed to
secure second place in the standings heading into the Quarterfinals.
In
Caguas, the Criollas came from behind and pushed the match to a
decisive fifth set to defeat the Valencianas de Juncos with scores
of 17-25, 19-25, 25-15, 25-15, 15-10, earning two of the three
available points.
With
the win, Caguas finishes the regular season in second place with a
10-10 record and 31 total points. Juncos, meanwhile, earned one
point in the loss and ended with a 6-14 record and 19 points.
The
regular season concludes this Thursday, March 19, with the match
between the Leonas de Ponce and the Pinkin de Corozal at the Carmen
Z. Figueroa court. Regardless of the result, the Quarterfinals will
be divided into two groups:
- Section A: Cangrejeras de Santurce, Pinkin de Corozal, Valencianas
de Juncos
- Section B: Criollas de Caguas, Atenienses de Manatí, Leonas de
Ponce
Manatí enters the final day with a 7-13 record and 22 points.
Ponce holds a 7-12 record with 21 points, still in fifth place,
while the Pinkin de Corozal sits in third place with a 9-10 record
and 27 points.
This
Thursday, March 19, the Leonas de Ponce visits the Pinkin de Corozal,
and the result of this match will determine the fourth and fifth
positions in the standings.
In
the Criollas’ victory, Jenaisya Moore led with 22 points (18 kills,
1 block, and 3 aces), followed by Valeria Flores and Alexandra
Sczech with 12 points each. Genesis Collazo and Alba Hernández added
10 points apiece.
For
Juncos, Kelly Sánchez scored 14 points, while Marcelle Báez and
Haley Busch contributed 11 each.
The
Criollas outperformed the Valencianas 66-58 in attacks, 73-71 in
digs, and 18-16 in assists. Juncos held the edge in blocks (14-11)
and receptions (36-31).
In
the other match of the night, the Cangrejeras de Santurce closed the
regular season undefeated (20-0, 57 total points) after defeating
the Atenienses de Manatí on the road in four sets.
The
set scores were 25-22, 25-21, 21-25, 25-20. This feat of completing
a regular season without losses had not been achieved since the 2005
season, when Caguas also accomplished it.
For
Santurce, Kara McGhee led with 19 points, followed by Tamara Otene
with 14, Helena Grozer with 13, and Neira Ortiz with 12.
For
Manatí, Emily Elliot led with 17 points, followed by Karla Santos
with 16 and Elise Goetzinger with 10. |
