LAUSANNE, Switzerland, January 29, 2020 – The FIVB is
delighted to announce the city of Zadar, Croatia as hosts of
the 2020 Women’s Volleyball Challenger Cup. After an open
and transparent bidding process which closed on December 18,
2019, Croatia becomes the next country to host the
prestigious Volleyball Challenger Cup in 2020, after Peru
hosted in 2018 and 2019. The competition will take place at
the Krešimir Ćosić Hall from June 24-28, 2020.
The FIVB Volleyball
Challenger Cup (VCC) was created as a competition to give
emerging volleyball nations an opportunity to demonstrate
their quality on the world stage. Since it was first
introduced in 2018, the Cup has provided teams from across
the world with an opportunity to qualify and compete in the
prestigious FIVB Volleyball Nations League (VNL). The
winning team of the Volleyball Challenger Cup 2020 will earn
a coveted place in the 2021 FIVB VNL.
Following the announcement,
FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça Fᵒ
stated:
“As volleyball continues to grow globally, the FIVB is very
excited to hold the third edition of the Women’s Volleyball
Challenger Cup in Croatia. This is a wonderful opportunity
to bring our beloved sport to new audiences. The beautiful
city of Zadar will set the scene for what promises to be a
truly spectacular Cup that will provide a great experience
for volleyball fans in Croatia and around the world.”
Croatian Volleyball Federation President Mr. Ante Baković
stated:
“This summer, Croatia will announce itself as a world-class
destination for elite volleyball when it hosts the 2020
Challenger Cup. Six teams from all over the world will
gather in Zadar, creating an opportunity for our National
Federation to show the world what the Croatian national
volleyball team means to our people. I am especially pleased
that the younger generations, as well as all the fans of
this sport, will have the opportunity to enjoy first class
volleyball.
“We know that our national
team will do its best and I firmly believe that the results
will show that. The FIVB Challenger Cup in Zadar will be a
‘postcard’ sent across the whole world as a promotion of
Croatia’s beauty and heritage. This kind of event will
attract even more visitors to our beautiful country, so I
invite all the fans to join us and support our national team
this summer.”
The men’s edition of the FIVB Volleyball Challenger Cup 2020
