Cuba and Canada to play Norceca Classic duel in Poland
WROCLAW, Poland.- The teams of Canada and Cuba will play a
classic Norceca match as they begin the action in Pool F of
Second Round at FIVB Men’s World Championship.
“They (the Cubans) have a great tradition of volleyball and we
expect a big challenge as usual. The pool is very difficult and
we need to improve,” said Canadian coach Glenn Hoag.
Canada’s captain Fred Winters is pleased with the results
achieved in the first round when his team won four matches in a
row after losing to Russia in their debut.
“One of our goals was to get into the second round and obviously
we want more and our next objective is to be among the top six
in the next round starting tomorrow,” he said.
On the other hand, Cuba’s Rodolfo Sanchez said to be pleased
about the qualification to the second round and hope for a
better performance from his side in this new phase of the
competition.
“I hope we can play better and show our best volleyball in
tomorrow’s match,” Sanchez stated. “We are aiming to gain as
much points as we can, but we also know it will be a difficult
task since the teams here are very strong.”
He also commented about the new breed of Cuban players in
response to a question from the floor about the high number of
Cubans playing in foreign leagues and not with the national
team.
“We are here to compete at the top level with the players that
we have,” Sanchez said. “We want to show to the world the good
class of talent for volleyball that we have in our country.”
Cuba’s captain Rolando Cepeda said: “tomorrow’s match will be
very interesting and important and we all hope we can show the
best side of our volleyball.” |
