Cuba and Mexico present their credentials as favorites
BARRANQUILLA. July 28, 2018. Cuba and Mexico started the men's
beach volleyball tournament of the Central American and
Caribbean Games by winning their respective games of the first
day.
Sergio Gonzalez / Nivaldo Diaz, of Cuba, beat 21-10, 21-14
Patrico Grant/Christopher Walters, of Jamaica, who were then
defeated with a double 21-15 by Cristian Encarnación/Daniel
Quiñones, of Puerto Rico, in shares of the B Group.
In Pool E, Mexicans Lombardo Ontiveros/Juan Virgen won 21-6,
21-13 at Quinten Anthony/Gilbert Paulina, of Curacao.
In Pool A, the locals, Johan Murray/ Jorge Luis Manjarres won a
21-10, 21-12 against Juan Menjivar and Kevin Flores from
Honduras.
In Pool C, Guatemala and Dominican Republic won twice and
tomorrow they will contest the group's leadership.
Andy Leonardo and Luis Garcia of Guatemala won 21-8, 21-14 to
Glezit May Newbornson and Irvens Benjamin, of Haiti and 21-13,
21-18 to Agustin Faulkner / Tevin St Jean, of Saint Lucia.
While Dominican Republic, with Alex Medina/Victor Castillo won
21-19, 21-15 to Saint Lucia and 21-17, 21-13 to Haiti.
In Pool D, Daneil Williams / Daynte Stewart of Trinidad and
Tobago defeated 21-16, 21-13 Yahn Florent / Lincoln Riviere of
Dominica. Nicaragua, with Danny Lopez and Rubén Mora won 21-6,
21-11 at Elwyn Oxley / Hugh Sealy, from Barbados.
In Pool E, Mexicans Lombardo Ontiveros / Juan Virgen won 21-6,
21-13 at Quinten Anthony / Gilbert Paulina, of Curacao.
In Pool F, Costa Rica, with Richard Smith / Víctor Alpizar won
21-16, 21-18 to Joshua Dwarkasing / Keven Sporkslede, from
Suriname.
Carlos Rangel / José Gómez, from Venezuela, won 21-11, 21-16 in
El Salvador with Carlos Escobar/David Vargas.
