Cuba at 0-2, Dominicans and
Puerto Ricans lost third in a row
VARNA, Bulgaria, September 14, 2018 – Finland
defeated Cuba 3-1 (25-19, 25-19, 20-25, 25-16) in a Pool D match
of the FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship on Friday.
The winners had five players with double figures
in the scoring charts with a well balanced offense as Urpo
Sivula, Markus Kaurto and Sakari Antti Makinen each registered
12 points.
Elviss Krastins and Sauli Sinkkonen had 11 and
10, respectively.
Miguel Gutierrez had 17 points for Cuba and Osniel Melgarejo
added 11. Cuba dropped to a 0-2 record.
Also in Varna in Pool D, Bulgaria outclassed Puerto Rico 3-0
(25-16, 25-18, 25-21) sending the Caribbean side to a 0-3 mark.
Bulgaria blanked Puerto Rico 12-0 in blocks and got the edge in
aces 7-6.
Nikolay Penchev and Nikolay Uchikov were the top scorers for
Bulgaria with 14 and 11 points, respectively. Pablo Guzman had
11 for Puerto Rico.
In Pool A in Florence,, Argentina defeated Dominican Republic in
straight sets 3-0 (26-24, 25-15, 25-15). Ith was the third loss
for the Dominicans.
Argentina held advantages of 9-1 and 5-1 in blocks and aces.
Cristian Poglajen had12 points for the winners and Sebastian
Sole added 11. For the losers, Henry Lopez and Henry Tapia each
had 11 points. |
