Cuba defeat Tunisia, USA lose to France
Katowice, Poland, September 6, 2014- After five-sets clash on
Saturday in Spodek, Katowice, Cuba won 3-2 (16-25, 25-20,
25-23, 20-25, 15-13) over Tunisia, leaving the rival without a
victory in pool B of 2014 World Championships.
With their victory today, Cuba improved their won-loss ratio to
2-2, leaving Tunisia with no won match. Nevertheless, playing
tiebreak helped Tunisia team to score their first point in pool
B.
Well played blocks and aggressive serves were the key to Cuba’s
victory. Kills by Ernesto Jimenez helped them to win the
five-sets clash.
Meanwhile in Krakow, In front of a packed Krakow Arena with over
14’000 spectators, France became the first Pool D team to secure
a place in the following round of FIVB Men’s World Championship
after beating USA 3-1 (19-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-21).
France is back on track against USA after two American wins at
2013 World League in Tulsa. However, the overall record between
them belongs to the American by 17-10.
It was the first time France lost an opening set in Krakow.
France is now the only team in Pool D to have earned points in
all four matches.
French top scorer Antonin Rouzier once again paced the way for
his side, with 23 tallies, helped by Earvin Ngapeth who added
15. Both of them only scored with spikes. For the Americans,
Matthew Anderson smashed 21 points and Taylor Sander chipped in
with 14. |
