Cuba defeated Barbados and is the fourth unbeaten team
HAVANA, Cuba, August 28, 2018 - Cuba defeated Barbados 3-0
(25-13, 25-17, 25-11) in Group A and became the fourth
undefeated of the Norceca U-21 Men's Volleyball Tournament, a
world qualifier and whose preliminary elimination round closes
tomorrow at the capital's Sports City.
The contribution of all the players was shared, although Julio
C. Cárdenas (11) and the opposite José Romero (10) achieved
double digits. For the opponents the one who scored the most was
wing spiker Akeel Stoute (9).
Collectively the host showed evident superiority in the attack
(38-15) and the service (14-3) and in unforced errors they
concluded 19 by 21.
The home coach Jesus A. Cruz said that "the victory was not
expected to serve as preparation in terms of tactical
situations, today they all went out to the court to have them
ready in the fundamental games, there is no nervousness,
everyone played the terrain and saw the possibilities they have,
starting tomorrow we will open with those who are better, but we
are happy to see good performances by some debutants and others
who have been regulars for the first time. "
Libero Lazaro Y. Arrechea said that "it was an easy match, the
team is ready for the next commitments that are stronger as
tomorrow against the Dominican Republic, and when we hit Canada
and the United States. The 12 of us have played and with the
same joy John Stuart, coach of Barbados, said he was satisfied
"because the group played well in the attack and in the defense,
however they had problems receiving the strong serve in
suspension of our rivals, instead it worked better than in the
previous challenge".
Middle Blocker Akeil Williams said: "Today we play better, we
enjoy the match, but we must improve when it comes to receiving,
first time I face Cuba, a team that plays very well." |
