Cuba defeated Dominican Republic and will meet again for the Gold at the U23 Pan American Cup

HAVANA, Cuba, July 15, 2023.- Cuba defeated Dominican Republic 3-1 (27-25, 25-18, 23-25, 25-12) to top the preliminary round and will meet again with their resilient opponent on Sunday to defend their title at the V U23 Men’s Pan American Cup at Ciudad Deportiva.

The local team faced a resilient Dominican team from the start, winning 27-25, while in the second leg it was easier and more dominant to finish early 25-18.

The visitors, undefeated in this phase just like the Cuban team with a 4-0 record, never gave up. In the third they took advantage of the bench players sent to play, lowered their guard to go up in the final moments and finish with a 23-25 victory.

However, the bench players were hurt, they were called to recover their errors for the desired sweep, showing their talent and harmony to win 25-12, the set with the highest advantage which Cuba dominated in attack (46-36), block (10-5) and serve (13-6).
