Cuba dominates Guatemala
TRUJILLO, Peru, July 8, 2019 -
Cuba defeated Guatemala without setbacks, in straight sets by
scores of 3-0 (25-9, 25-13, 25-12) to open the third day of
action of the XVIII Pan American Cup.
The early stages of the three sets were pretty even. The
representatives of Guatemala fought every point, trying to
defend the aggressive attacks of their rival.
But, the winning team regained control and defeated their
opponent in attack 44-23 and blocked 8-3. Their biggest
advantage was in the service, 14-2. Cuba
had 11 points from unforced errors, and Guatemala 9.
Captain of Cuba, Diaris Pérez: I think that today the team
demonstrated the exhaustion of the games against the Dominican
Republic and Canada that were very demanding. But we were able
to retake our game and close the game with power.
Captain of Guatemala, Aury Álvarez: Our team played more united,
our goal was to make the most points to Cuba and I think we
achieved it. Maybe we lacked a little more, but we did a lot of
damage in their defense and in the upcoming days we will play
with a lot of concentration and strength like today.
Guatemala accumulates three negative results and will fight to
break the losing streak when it faces Argentina on Tuesday, July
9, at the Gran Chimú Coliseum in Trujillo.
The Cuban team has accumulated up to now 7 points for two
defeats and motivated by this first victory, they will face Peru
this Tuesday 09 at 20:00 hours. |
