Cuba in semifinals of Men’s Challenger Cup
LJUBLJANA, Slovenia, July 5, 2016 – Cuba will meet Turkey in the
semifinals of the 2019 FIVB Men’s Volleyball Challenger Cup on
Saturday.
Cuba finished the Pool B with a 2-0 mark after victories over
Belaraus and Egypt. After a tough battle Cuba claimed a valuable
3-1 (25-20, 21-25, 25-21, 25-10) victory over Belarus. Thus,
they became the first semifinalist of the 2019 FIVB Men’s
Volleyball Challenger Cup.
Marlon Yang and Jesus Herrera were the best scorers of Cuba with
18 and 17 points, respectively. Miguel Ángel López added 16 and
Roamy Alonso chipped in with 11 points.
In the last match of Pool B, Cuba triumphed over Egypt 3-2
(25-23, 25-18, 23-25, 22-25, 15-7). Cuba were more efficient in
attack 55%-41%. They also served nine aces - five of them by
Miguel Lopez Castro.
The best scorer of the game was Marlon Yang Herrera of Cuba with
22 points (18 in attack, 3 in block and 1 in serve), followed by
Miguel Lopez Castro with 20. |
