Cuba in the top-8 at U21 Championship
MANAMA, Bahrain, July 20, 2019 – Cuba endured the challenge of
Egypt and emerged with Saturday’s tie-break win (26-24, 25-20,
21-25, 20-25, 15-9) in Pool B of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s U21
World Championship in Isa Sport City.
It was the second victory for Cuba which secures the Caribbean
side a spot among the top 8 teams of the event.
Jose Carlos Romero and José Miguel Gutierrez contributed 22 and
18 points, respectively, in the victory.
Puerto Rico defeated Morocco 3-1 (25-22, 25-21, 34-36, 25-20) on
Saturday to record their first win. The Puerto Ricans will play
for the 9 to 16 positions.
Sebastian Negron had an impressive performance finishing with 28
points, including two aces. Pedro Molina added 12.
In Pool D, Canada won the first set but couldn’t keep the pace
and lost to Poland 3-1 (20-25, 25-20, 25-18, 26-24) It was the
third consecutive loss for the winless Canada who finished
winless. |
