Cuba outclass Bahamas in straight sets
CORDOBA, Mexico, November 25 2014 - Osmany Uriarte and Javier
Jimenez scored 14 and 13 points respectively in the victory of
Cuba over Bahamas 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-15) in the second match
of the first day of Men’s competition at XXII Central American
and Caribbean Games.
Byron Ferguson y Shedrick Forbes scored 5 points apiece for the
Bahamas that surrendered 29 units to the Cuban squad by
mistakes, while Cuba gave up 21.
However Cuba aced six times against one by Bahamas, with three
by Javier Jiménez. But in the blocking department Bahamas
concreted 4 points against 2 by Cuba.
“My team tried to play. We had some lack of passing, but tried
to do it with confidence, with some execution. We saw this as
challenge It was a big challenge for us, congratulations to
Cuba”, said Prince Tanique Wilson, captain of Bahamas.
“Bahamas were not an easy opponent. They made us play . Always
the first match is the most difficult. We have the
responsibility of going out to play well against every rival.
There is not any one in particular to be the one to beat,” Cuban
captain, Rolando Cepeda stated.
“It was tough but I feel proud of my team. They played well. It
was about excecution. We faced a team with a high level and
experience. The difference in the score was short (in the first
set) and to face their height we tried to be quick, of course
they are a great team,” Devince Smith, coach of Bahamas
mentioned.
“It was our first match. Congratulations to Bahamas in the way
they played. We missed some things and have to work a lot in
order to improve them. I don’t see ourselves as favorites, as
there are several teams competing here. We are in a tough pool.
Probably the most difficult I’ve ever seen with three teams that
were at the world championship like Venezuela and Puerto Rico,
along with us”, Rodolfo Sánchez, coach of Cuba said. |
