Cuba outdueled Argentina in five sets
MANAMA, Bahrain, July 19, 2019 – José Carlos Romero and Julio
César Cárdenas joined forces to score 29 and 20 points,
respectively, in the five-set (25-23, 25-23, 29-25, 22-25,
15-13) victory over Argentina in Pool B of the FIVB U21 Men’s
Volleyball World Championship on Friday.
Luciano Palonsky led Argentina with 27 points, followed by
Franco Medina with 18. Cuba evened its record at 1-1 the same as
the South Americans.
In Pool A, China beat Puerto Rico (0-2) in three close sets
(25-23, 25-22, 25-23).
Chengcheng Xiu was the best attacker for China with 17 points,
followed by Dejun Zhai with 10. For Puerto Rico, Sebastian
Negrón stood out with 13 points.
In Pool D, Brazil dispatched Canada (0-2) in straight sets 3-0
(25-15, 25-19, 25-13).
Brazilian Victor Almeida was the only player in the match who
reached double figures in the scoring with 14 points followed by
teammate Edson Souza with 9. For Canada, Brodie Hofer and
Jackson Bere each had 7 points. |
