DURANGO, Mexico, August 16, 2021 - Cuba, current
reigning champion and top winner in the history
of men's volleyball in the NORCECA Confederation
with 16 gold medals, is one of the eight teams
registered to take part in the institution's
biennial championship that begins next Wednesday
18.
The United States, the next highest winning team
with 9 titles, will accompany Cuba in Group B
alongside the Dominican Republic and Guatemala.
Canada, the only other men's title winner with
one crown, will compete in Group A alongside
representatives from Puerto Rico, Trinidad &
Tobago and host Mexico.
The event has had different winners in the last
three editions of the continental competitions
with Canada, United States and Cuba claiming the
top place of the podium.
The top placed teams at the end of the pool play
will secure tickets to the semifinal phase while
teams placed in second and third will meet in
the quarterfinals with the winners advancing to
the medal round play. The losers in
quarterfinals will play for the 5-to-8
positions.
Besides their 16 titles, Cuba owns 5 second
place finishes and 4 third places. The United
States have 11 silver and 4 bronze medals while
Canada has 14 bronze medals to go with 5 silver
medals.
Mexico has finished three times in second place
and two times in third position, Puerto Rico has
one silver and two bronze medals and the
Dominican Republic has one silver medal. |
