MORELIA, Mexico, October 1, 2015.- Cuba dominated Trinidad and
Tobago 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-14) and will face Mexico in the
match for fifth place of the NORCECA Women’s Continental
Championship at Bicentenario Auditorium of Morelia, Michoacan.
Cubans took advantage of Trinidad and Tobago’s 33 errors and
limited their faults to 11, they held 30-24 margin in spikes,
10-6 in blocks and 2-1 in aces.
Opposite Heidy Rodriguez of Cuba topped all scorers with 14
points, 9 on kills, 4 on blocks and 1 ace. Opposite Krystle
Esdelle led Trinidad and Tobago with 9 points, Middle Blocker
Sinead Jack contributed with 7 points and Outside Hitter Channon
Thompson registered 6 points.
Captain Sulian Matienzo of Cuba said “our performance was low,
it’s normal because of yesterday’s loss. In tomorrow’s match we
will face Mexico like it’s a final match; we want to finish in
fifth place, which for a Continental tournament is a good
position”.
Captain Renele Forde of Trinidad and Tobago said “honestly there
is not much to say, we should have played better. We hope to
beat Costa Rica tomorrow and not finish last”.
“This match contributed as preparation for tomorrow, we used
several variations in blocking to face Mexico. The team is used
to playing in front of large crowds and we expect it to be loud
tomorrow, but I’m sure Mexico’s fans will applaud our
performance. Trinidad and Tobago has improved, I’ve known them
for a long time and it’s good for NORCECA to have development”
said Cuba’s coach Roberto Garcia. |
