Cuba with two Men Teams in the semifinals
VARADERO, Cuba, May 11, 2019.- The two Cuban teams, the second
from the United States and Nicaragua advanced to the men's
semifinals of the Varadero Beach Volleyball Tournament, the
fourth stop of NORCECA Circuit which concludes on Sunday in the
complex of courts installed in the area next to the Barceló
Solymar Hotel of the famed tourism destination.
Sergio Gonzalez, fifth Olympic in Rio 2016, and his new partner
Luis Reyes continues to improve the communication in their game,
and will go to discuss the pass to the final against their
teammates of Cuba-2, the 21-year old Yosvany Carrasco, and 32
year-ol Karell Piña as they look for another medal after adding
bronze, silver and gold in that order.
For the other semifinal features a clash between Troy Field and
Ty Loomis (USA-2) and Rubén Mora and Denis López of Nicaragua,
who won a bronze in the second phase in Cayman Islands,
historical metal since it was the first for their country in
this Circuit
In the quarterfinals, top-seeded Sergio and Luis fulfilled the
predictions by beating Eric Zaun-Ian Satterfield (USA-1) with
comfortable scores of 21-10 and 21-16.
The second Cuban team of Carrasco and Piña beat Gabriel Burlacu-Liam
Kopp (CAN-2) with score of 2-0 (21-12, 21-17) after mixing the
impetus of the young man and the technique of one of the most
experienced players in the area.
In one of the most difficult challenges of this round, Field and
Loomis (USA-2) managed to subdue the combative Puerto Ricans
Josué Rivera and Kevin López with identical sets of 21-19-
Mora and Lopez prevailed 2-0 (21-19, 21-18) in a Central
American classic against Guatemalans Andy Leonardo and Luis
García, the second seed and silver medalists in the previous
manga.
The two local pairs, winners in lot A and D, and the Puerto
Rican in C, were the only with perfect records in pool play.
The semifinals begin at nine in the morning, while the
discussion of the medals is scheduled in the afternoon session.
