Cuba, USA, Mexico and Canada Advance to
Women’s Semifinals in Ciudad Madero
CIUDAD MADERO, Tamaulipas, May 23, 2026.-
Cuba’s Kailin/Drik, USA’s Bowman/Shaffer, Mexico’s Torres/Flores
and Canada’s Dunn/McKay secured their spots in the semifinals of the
fourth stop of the 2026 NORCECA Tour in Ciudad Madero, Tamaulipas,
Mexico, after winning their women’s quarterfinal matches on Saturday
and remaining in contention for the tournament medals.
The
semifinals will feature Torres/Flores (MEX) against Bowman/Shaffer
(USA), while Dunn/McKay (CAN) will face Kailin/Drik (CUB).
The
Cuban duo Kailin/Drik advanced after defeating Canada’s Prokofieva/Crossfield
2-0 (21-15, 21-10), while Bowman/Shaffer of the United States swept
the Dominican pair Payano/Almanzar 21-9 and 21-14.
Meanwhile, Mexico’s Torres/Flores needed three sets to defeat the
Dominican Republic’s Paniagua/Cleto 2-1 (21-15, 16-21, 15-6) in one
of the most closely contested matches of the day.
The
other semifinal berth went to Canada’s Dunn/McKay, who defeated El
Salvador’s Tovar/Vigil 2-0 with scores of 22-20 and 21-16.
During the morning qualification round, Torres/Flores defeated El
Salvador’s Tovar/Vigil 2-0; Bowman/Shaffer overcame Guatemala’s
Alvarado/González; Dunn/McKay defeated Nicaragua’s López/Silva; and
Payano/Almanzar topped Costa Rica’s Aguilar/Molina. In addition,
Prokofieva/Crossfield advanced after defeating Mexico’s Cepek/Juárez.
The
final day of competition will begin on Sunday at 8:30 a.m., when the
champions of the fourth stop of the 2026 NORCECA Tour will be
determined.
