Cuban Martinez and Flores Women Gold Medalists in Veracruz
VERACRUZ, Mexico, November 30, 2014. - Cuban Leila Martinez and
Lianma Flores became the Women Gold Medalists in the Beach
Volleyball Tournament of the XXII Central American and Caribbean
Games defeating Mexico’s Martha Revuelta and Bibiana Candelas
2-0 (21-18, 21-18).
Leila Martinez and Lianma Flores communicated very well while
performing, giving them the confidence to face the home team
supported by their followers at Magic Kingdom Park in Veracruz.
Bibiana Candelas’ blocking and Martha Revuelta’s defense weren’t
enough to contain as Leila’s and Lianma’s precise offense and
killing serves.
Leila Martinez indicated “we prepared the whole year for this
competition, training hard back home and playing the NORCECA
Tour to apply different strategies”.
Liama Flores said “our strength is in our serves and we played
hard to crown as champions”.
In the Bronze Medal Match, Olaya Pazo and Norisbeth Agudo of
Venezuela controlled Costa Rica’s duo Karen Cope and Natalia
Alfaro 2-0 (21-19, 21-15).
Costa Rica was able to keep the rhythm during the first set
carried out by Venezuela who pushed hard with their defense.
