LIMA, Peru, June 15, 2015 – Cuban young sensation Melissa Vargas
came up two aces short of tying the single match record for the
Women’s Pan American Cup after landing seven serves in the
five-set victory of Cuba over Brazil at Eduardo Dibos Coliseum
				on Sunday.

Vargas, the leading scorer of the event with 37 after two days
of actions, couldn’t match the record of nine aces set by USA’s
Nicole Branagh against Puerto Rico on June 27, 2002 during the
first edition of the event in Mexicali, Mexico.

The information was served by Roosevelt Comarazamy, NORCECA
Press Director and Press Delegate for the fourteenth edition of
the tournament taking place in the cities of Lima and Callao.

Melissa, who turns 16 in October, is the fourth player (seven
times) to score seven aces in a match of the Women’s Pan
				American Cup.

She joined countrywoman Nancy Carrillo (2002), Mexico’s Ana
Mercado (twice in 2005), Dominican Republic’s Bethania De la
Cruz (twice in 2009) and Mexico’s Samantha Bricio (2013) for the
third place of the all-time list.

Cuba’s Rachel Sanchez (2005) and Dominican Republic’s Prisilla
Rivera share the second place of the list with 8 aces in a
				single match.

The 16 aces of Cuba against Brazil rank as the second highest
total for a team in a match, three short of the record of 19
established by Cuba against Barbados on June 11, 2005 in Santo
				Domingo. |
