Cuban Mireya Luis elected President of NCVA Zone
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, June 9, 2017 – Cuba’s Mireya
Luis was elected president of the North and Central Volleyball
Zonal Association to replace Mexico’s M.C. Saul Castro Verdugo
who resigned to the position.
The three-time Olympic gold medalist Mireya is recognized as one
of the best volleyball players in history. She played a key role
as part of the legendary team “Las Morenas del Caribe” that won
the Olympic titles in Barcelona, Atlanta and Sydney.
The zonal association consists of Canada, United States, Mexico,
Cuba, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.
The Executive Committee and Board of Administration of NORCECA
began on Friday its annual three-day meeting in Santo Domingo.
Ms. Lucille Hobson of U.S. Virgin Islands was voted by the Board
of Administration as Second Executive Vice President to replace
Mr. Douglas Beal of USA.
Mr. Edgar Alvarado of Costa Rica was accepted as president of
AFECAVOL and member of the Board of Administration without
voting rights to replace Mme. Marta Centeno de Sajche who
requested a one year leave of absence.
The members voted in favor of proposal to name Mexico’s Alberto
Arreola as replacement of his countryman Castro Verdugo in the
BOA. Also, Ms. Lori Okimura of United States was proposed as new
member in substitution of Mr. Douglas Beal.
The presidency of NORCECA also presented the nomination of
Castro Verdugo and Puerto Rico’s Carlos Beltran Svelti as
honorary vice presidents.
These proposals approved by the members of the NORCECA Board of
Administration are pending of the approval by the NORCECA
Congress to take place next October 27-29 in Costa Rica. |
