Cubans Alayo and Diaz enjoy winning start in Aguascalientes

AGUASCALIENTES, Mexico, April 22, 2022 –Cubans Jorge Luis Alayo and Noslen Díaz made a terrific start at San Marcos Beach Volleyball Tournament with victories over duos of United States and Mexico In Pool A on Friday.

Alayo and Diaz first prevailed against Americans William Kolinske and Evan Cory by scores of 2-1 (23-25, 26-24, 15-12) in a battle that lasted 1 hour and 5 minutes.

The Cuban pair capped their day with a 2-0 (21-13, 21-13) over Mexicans Juan Virgen and Miguel Sarabia.

Canada’s Daniel Dearing and Sam Schachter won Pool B with a well-fought victory 2-1 (21-16, 21-23, 15-12) over Mexico’s Barajas and Cruz who had defeated Puerto Rico’s Kevin Rodriguez and Juan Ribas 2-0 (21-16, 21-15).

In Pool C, Canadians Jake MacNeil and Alexander Russell outdueled Americans Travis Mewhirter and Timothy Brewster in 59 minutes winning by scores of 2-1 (12-21, 24-22, 20-18) for their second victory.

Earlier on Friday, MacNeil/Russell had defeated Travis Lee and Bryce Meyer of U.S. Virgin Islands 2-0 (21-15, 21-10) while Mewhirter/Brewster breezed past Mexico’s Ricardo Galindo and Isaias Aguirre 2-0 (21-9, 21-13).

The tandem of Lee/Meyer recovered to edge Galindo/Aguirre 2-1 (23-21, 14-21, 15-12) in 53 minutes.
