AGUASCALIENTES, Mexico, April 24, 2022 – Cubans
Jorge Luis Alayo and Noslen Díaz pulled a 2-0
(21-18, 21-19) victory over USA’s pair of
William Kolinske and Evan Cory to claim the
men’s title of San Marcos Beach Volleyball
Tournament.
In the Final Four phase Alayo and Díaz defeated
Mexico’s Juan Virgen and Miguel Sarabia 2-0
(21-16, 21-19) in 39 minutes while Kolinske and
Cory scored an easy 2-0 (21-14, 21-16) win
against fellow Americans Travis Mewhirter and
Thimoty Brewster.
The bronze medal went to Virgen and Sarabia who
needed 43 minutes to subdue Mewhirter and
Brewster in an exciting match that finished 2-0
(21-16, 28-26).
In the qualification matches for the 5-8
positions Puerto Rico’s Kevin Rodríguez and Juan
Ribas outplayed Mexico’s Jorge Barajas and
Gabriel Cruz 2-0 (21-16, 24-22) and Sam
Schachter and Daniel Dearing defeated Jake
MacNeil and Alexander Russell 2-0 (21-16, 21-18)
in a battle between Canadians.
Then Schachter/Dearing won the contest for 5th
position with a 2-0 (21-13, 21-9) victory over
Rodriguez/Ribas and MacNeil/Russell took 7th
place after a 2-1 (21-14, 20-22, 15-13) win
against Barajas/Cruz.
Travis Lee and Bryce Meyer of U.S. Virgin
Islands won the match for the 9th place with a
2-0 (23-21, 21-18) victory over Ricardo Galindo
and Isaias Aguirre of Mexico.. |
