Cubans Diaz and Gonzalez go for more in La Paz

LA PAZ, Mexico, April 6, 2016 – Cubans Nivaldo Diaz and Sergio Gonzalez, one of the most successful men’s beach volleyball team in NORCECA recent history, are one of the main attractions at the upcoming La Paz Tournament, the third stop of the 2016 Circuit.

Díaz and González, have won six gold medals, plus one silver and one bronze, in sporadic participation since they have been associated in 2014. Over that period the duo won also the gold medal at the Central American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico in 2014 and the bronze at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto.

The men’s field includes the USA pair of brothers Trevor and Taylor Crabb, winners in Guatemala City and bronze medalists in Guaymas, Mexico last week as well as compatriots Stafford Slick and William Allen, who finished third and second, respectively, in the first two events of the year.

One of the teams representing Mexico is the one formed by José Luis Rubio and Josué Gaxiola who finished second in the opening tournament and concluded fourth last week after losing a three-set battle against the Crabb brothers.

In the women’s side, Americans Kimberly Dicello and Kendra Vanzwieten will be going for their second victory following their triumph in Guaymas over the Canadian pair of Julie Gordon and Brandie Wilkerson, who have finished second twice this year and likely hope to go one step higher in La Paz.

Fellow Americans Kelly Reeves and Allison Daley-McColloch, who claimed the gold medals in Guatemala City and got the bronze in Guaymas, complete the USA entries for the third leg of the circuit.

The women’s field also includes Canada’s two-time gold medalist Caleigh Whitaker and Sphie Bukovec as well as Costa Rica’s Natalia Alfaro and Karen Cope, silver medalists in St Lucia’s last year and third-place finishers in Varadero, Cuba.
