Cubans Lazara Madan and Dayani Zequeira won all
their three matches in Pool B on the opening day
of the NORCECA Women’s U23 Beach Volleyball
Qualifier to the Junior Pan American Games
scheduled in Cali, Colombia from November 25 to
December 5.
Madan/Zequeira first beat Jeneiry Rosario and
Luz María Carty of Dominican Republic-B 2-0
(21-19, 21-15), continued with a fast win over
Blanca Colato and Gabriela Funes of El Salvador
2-0 (21-13, 21-9) and closed their successful
day with a 2-1 (21-15, 14-21, 15-12) triumph
over Nicaragua’s Maria Zeledón and Anielka
Alonzo.
Meanwhile, Puerto Ricans Allanis Navas and Maria
Gonzalez came out winners of their two matches
in Pool A.
Navas and Gonzalez beat Canada’s Becky Tresham
and Kaylee Glagau 2-0 (21-11, 21-15) and
finished their day with a 2-0 (21-19, 21-11)
victory over Mexico’s Katherine Albarran and
Atenas Gutierrez.
Tresham and Glagau recovered from their opening
loss to claim wins over Ximena Nuñez and Angel
Williams 2-1 (12-21, 21-11, 15-9) of Costa Rica
and Julibeth Payano and Deanny De la Cruz of
Dominican Republic-A 2-0 (21-14, 21-12).
Guatemala’s Paola Alvarado and Laura Quiñones
won their two contests over Zeledon/Alonzo 2-0
(21-18, 21-11) and Rosario/Carty 2-1 (21-19,
20-22, 15-11).
