Cubans Mailen and Leila remain at the top
MANAGUA Nicaragua. May 5, 2019 - Cubans Maylen Deliz/Leila
Martinez got their third golden medal in the NORCECA 2019
Women's Beach Volleyball Tour without any problems, defeating
Socorro López/Lolette Rodríguez of Nicaragua, 2-0 (21 -8, 21-9).
The champions did not give liberties with their serves and
powerful shots over Lopez/Rodriguez, who advanced to the final
for the first time in the history of this tournament by
defeating Kaley Melville/Lindsey Fuller, of United States, 2-1
(15-21, 21-16, 15-13).
The pair from El Salvador, Kathya Vásquez and María Fernanda
Vargas, also won a medal and scored their names in the history
of NORCECA, winning third place, beating Melville/Fuller, with a
double 21-15.
In the semifinals, Maylen and Leyla dominated the Salvadorans
with a 2-0 (21-10, 21-11).
"I am very happy, thank God we were able to obtain the medal
that is the result of the sacrifice and everything we have done
so far. The local public has been very good to us, always
supporting and that motivates us a lot,"said Leyla.
"We continue with the same objective for the next tour that will
be in our country... and is to achieve the gold medal," said the
champion.
Meanwhile, Maylen said that "I felt very good here in Nicaragua,
the public welcomed us and always supported us, I feel fortunate
to be here and would gladly return if they have another NORCECA
tournament."
"These tournaments serve to prepare us and reach a good level
for the Pan American Games in Lima, since we aim to be on the
podium," said Deliz.
