LA PAZ, Mexico, April 9, 2016 - Cuba and The United States
clinched a berth in Men’s competition finals at the Norceca
Beach Volleyball International Circuit.
Cuban’s Nivaldo Diaz and Sergio Gonzalez defeated Cameron
Wheelan and Michael Plantinga in straight sets (21-15, 21-12).
Meanwhile in an All-American match, the Crabb brothers, Taylor
and Trevor of USA-A, faced Stafford Slick and William Allen of
USA-B, in the second semifinal.
The triumph was for Slick and Allen in straight sets (21-13,
21-16).
Both matches as well as the entire sessions registered a full
house at the Harborside Beach Stadium temporarily build for the
competition.
Gonzalez and Diaz advanced to the semis after beating Sebastian
Valenciano and Bryan Monge of Costa Rica 2-0 (21-10, 21-12) in
quarterfinals, while Wheelan and Plantinga defeated Trinidadians
Fabien Whitfield and Daneil Williams by scores of 21-15 and
21-10.
Slick and Allen advanced over Mexicans Jose Luis Rubio and Josue
Gaxiola after winning in two (21-17, 21-19). The other U.S.
team, composed by the Crabb Brothers, beat also a host couple
when they faced Ricardo Galindo and Juan Revuelta of Mexico-B.
The result was 2-0 (21-17, 21-18).
Semifinals were played on Saturday due to Television
arrangements that have contributed to the success of this
tournament with live broadcasts to many regions of Mexico by
Mega Cable Network.
Finals and third place matches will be broadcasted on Sunday,
starting at 14:30 hours, local time.
