“They meet all the necessary safety protocols for a Covid-19 free environment, with restricted areas only for the players, coaches and other volleyball players, their dorms and courts” explained the National Volleyball Commissioner Jorge Sosa.

They are not allowed to leave the Centre, the staff that guarantees their meals and other services enter on a daily basis but have limited mobility.

Currently training are the experimented Leila Martínez and Maylen Delis, alongside Lidianny Echavarría and Yanileydis Sánchez as well as substitute player Arlín Hechevarría, the final cut will be announced before their official registration.

“We will not be entering the men’s tournament, as we don’t reach the minimum required of no less than 12 international matches; the only player who meets this requirement is Sergio González, contrary of his teammate Luis Enrique Reyes who is one match short” said Sosa.

As for González, the veteran 30 year old player, fifth place in the Olympics and winner of numerous medals in NORCECA, decided to retire due to several injuries.
