Cubans training at sand “bubble” concept
HAVANA, Cuba, February 17, 2021 – The Women’s Cuban National
team qualified to compete at the Final NORCECA Pre-Olympic Beach
Volleyball Tournament scheduled in June in Mexico, continue
their training program under a “bubble” concept at the National
Volleyball School of Havana.
“They meet all the necessary safety protocols for a Covid-19
free environment, with restricted areas only for the players,
coaches and other volleyball players, their dorms and courts”
explained the National Volleyball Commissioner Jorge Sosa.
They are not allowed to leave the Centre, the staff that
guarantees their meals and other services enter on a daily basis
but have limited mobility.
Currently training are the experimented Leila Martínez and
Maylen Delis, alongside Lidianny Echavarría and Yanileydis
Sánchez as well as substitute player Arlín Hechevarría, the
final cut will be announced before their official registration.
“We will not be entering the men’s tournament, as we don’t reach
the minimum required of no less than 12 international matches;
the only player who meets this requirement is Sergio González,
contrary of his teammate Luis Enrique Reyes who is one match
short” said Sosa.
As for González, the veteran 30 year old player, fifth place in
the Olympics and winner of numerous medals in NORCECA, decided
to retire due to several injuries. |
