Curacao edges Bonaire in thriller
WILLEMSTAD, Curacao, July 9, 2015 - Hosts Curacao roared back to
win the last six points after trailing 13-9 in the deciding set
to edge Bonaire 21-25, 25-19, 27-25, 18-25, 15-13 in a thriller
in the second game of a double header on the opening night of
the CAZOVA Youth Girls’ Championships.
The see-saw under-18 contest lasted 136 minutes and had fans on
the edge of their seats from the first serve to the last strike.
The captains led from the front as Bonaire’s Angela Jahena was
the game’s leading scorer with 24 points and Anais Conradus
notched 16 as three players from the home team scored in double
figures.
Dangela Maduro and Jewengaly Hart chipped in with 11 and 10
points, respectively, for Curacao.
Curacao led 27-20 in spikes, 8-6 in blocked shots and 20-15 in
service winners.
“There is a winner and one who will learn from the game, so
there is never a loser. The players gave it their all,’’ said
Curacao’s coach Patrico Bridgewater.
“We gave it all we had. I think everybody enjoyed the game and
we have to keep going,” said Bonaire’s coach Rudy Anthony. |
