Bahamas and Trinidad and Tobago to play for first place
Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, December 3, 2011 – Bahamas and
Trinidad and Tobago will play for the top place of the NORCECA
Inter Zonal Men’s Beach Volleyball Continental Cup on Sunday
with both countries secured of berths in the next phase of the
competition towards the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Jamaica and St. Kitts and Nevis, also with tickets to the third
round, are set to dispute the third place of the event while the
fifth and final spot will be decided between St. Lucia and hosts
Cayman Islands.
The top five teams of the Caribbean zone are scheduled to play
the top five teams of the Central America region early next year
continuing with the qualifying process to the Olympics.
Bahamas reached the finals when Muller Petit and Renaldo Knowles
defeated Shawn Seabrookes and St. Clair Hodge of St. Kitts and
Nevis 15-12 in a golden set. They had won earlier 2-0 (21-19,
21-19) over Carl Steadroy Collins and Kemory Percival.
The Trinidadians Fabien Whitfield and Simon Blake won 15-11 in a
golden set over Jamaica’s Mark Lewis and Wayne Scott after
prevailing 2-0 (21-16, 21-15) against Andre McLean and Donovan
Richards.
In the double elimination tournament, Jamaica arrived into the
third place match following a 2-0 victory over Cayman Islands
while St. Kitts and Nevis had to come from behind to edge St
Lucia 2-1 with the golden set finishing 17-15 thanks to the
combined effort of Seabrookes and Hodge.
