Defending champion Guatemala starts with victory
MANAGUA, Nicaragua, September 7, 2017.- Defending champion
Guatemala started with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-21) victory over
Belize in the first match of day two of competition of the XVII
AFECAVOL U-21 Men’s Central American Championship at IND
Volleyball venue in Managua, Nicaragua.
Guatemala was stronger in the first two sets, while Belize gave
them difficulties in set three up to point 18, when the blue and
White team managed to take distance.
Guatemala benefited on 31 opponent unforced errors while
committing 22 of their own.
Guatemala controlled all skills, spikes (37-27), blocks (5-4)
and serves (2-0). Edgar Maldonado with 13 points and Jonathan
Paz with 12 led Guatemala into victory; captain Francis Hauze
with 14 points led Belize.
Captain Francis Hauze of Belize commented “we tried our best but
we started to adjust and get into the match too late; we tried
to catch-up but our opponents were already gone. The bench
players had done a good job, it’s us that need to perform better
from the beginning”.
Captain David Alvarado of Guatemala indicated “it was a good
match, still there are some errors to work on; in set three we
were over confident and committed the most errors, things were
complicated but thank God we finally won”. |
