GUAYMAS, Mexico, April 3, 2016 – Kimberly Dicello and Kendra
Vanzwieten of United States-A won the women’s segment of Guaymas
Tournament, the second leg of the 2016 NORCECA Beach Volleyball
Circuit, by defeating Julie Gordon and Brandie Wilkerson of
Canada-A 2-1 (19-21, 21-11, 15-13) on Sunday.
“We are so happy with this gold medal and very glad to have the
chance of knowing Guaymas and its people,” said Kimberly, the
tallest player of the duo, speaking in a neat Spanish.
In a semifinal duel between American teams, Dicello/Vanzwieten
prevailed against Kelly Reeves and Allison Daley-McColloch,
winners of the opening tournament in Guatemala also in three
sets 2-1 (21-17, 17-21, 16-14) in almost one hour of exciting
actions.
The Canadians Gordon/Wilkerson engaged in a tough battle against
the top Mexican team of Claudia Rios and Gloria Santoyo before
winning 2-1 (18-21, 21-14, 15-13).
The bronze medal match also stretched to three sets with
Reeves/Daley-McColloch overcoming Rios/Santoyo of Mexico-A 2-1
(18-21, 21-12, 15-11).
