SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, April 23, 2015
– Gaila Gonzalez of Dominican Republic was recipient of the
honors as Most Valuable Player at the U20 Women’s Volleyball Pan
American Cup that concluded on Friday with the victory of her
home side.
The lefty Gonzalez, who shared the scoring title
with Mexico’s Maria Rodriguez with 99 points, recorded a
tournament-high 26 points at the gold medal match against
Argentina.
Gonzalez was one of five Dominican players
awarded at the closing ceremony at Ricardo Arias Pavilion
attended, among others, by Luis Mejía Oviedo, president of the
Dominican Republic Olympic Committee.
Dominican Republic’s Natalia Martinez was
recognized as First Outside Hitter and Best Server, while
teammate Jineiry Martinez received her plaque as Second Middle
Blocker. Yocaty Perez was Best Setter and Larysmer Martinez as
Best Receiver.
Argentina’s Candelaria Herrera was named First
Middle Blocker and teammate Anahi Tosi as Opposite.
Chile’s Gabriela Urretaviscaya won the titles as
Best Digger and Best Libero and Mexico’s Rodriguez got the award
as Second Outside Hitter. |
