Dominican Olympian, Camil Dominguez
explores new ground after volleyball
October 25, 2025.- Former Dominican Republic setter Camil Inmaculada
Dominguez Martinez has shared how volleyball continues to guide her
life after sport, following her participation in the FIVB
Beyond the Court athlete post-career program in
Lausanne.
Dominguez represented the Dominican Republic for more than a decade,
competing at the highest level of international volleyball. She was
part of the national team that won gold at the Pan American Games,
several NORCECA titles and made multiple FIVB Volleyball World
Championship appearances, before also featuring at the Tokyo 2020
Olympic Games.
Now retired, Dominguez is finding new challenges away from the
court. “Since I retired, I have been trying to test different kinds
of scenarios. Lately, I found my way into the tourism world,” she
said. “I work with a tour operator as their commercial manager for
Latin America, so it’s a new path where I’m applying everything that
I learned from sports – communication, problem solving, stress
management.
“Volleyball taught me that together we can achieve so many great
things, and I take that with me everywhere – to my social life and
to my professional life. It was a pleasant surprise to be chosen to
be here among these great athletes. I know we’re going to get so
many things out of this program, things we’ll be able to take back
and share with other athletes and with our community.
“The reason why I am here today, and I am in a different stage of my
life, is because I started moving. So, my advice to you is just
never stop moving.”
The Beyond the Court program, held in partnership with the
International Centre for Sport Studies (CIES), gathered volleyball
and beach volleyball Olympians in Lausanne for workshops on personal
development, professional branding and life after competition. The
participants also visited the Olympic House, where they signed the
Olympic Wall, joining a tradition shared by athletes from around the
world.
Dominguez said the experience gave her a chance to reflect on her
years in volleyball and how the lessons from sport continue to shape
her professional and personal journey. |
