Dominican Republic Chases Historic Seventh Straight

Central American and Caribbean Games Title

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, July 31, 2026. – Eight of the region's top women's national teams will battle for gold when the volleyball tournament at the 25th Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026 takes place from August 2 to 7 at the Professor Ricardo Gioriver Arias Volleyball Palace.

 

Host Dominican Republic, Las Reinas del Caribe, returns home chasing a historic seventh consecutive Central American and Caribbean Games title. The defending champions also could claim a record-breaking of ninth gold medal overall, moving ahead of Cuba as the most successful nation in the history of the women's tournament.

The Dominican Republic enters the competition after capturing its sixth consecutive Central American and Caribbean Games crown at San Salvador 2023, where Puerto Rico earned the silver medal and Cuba claimed bronze.

 

Pool A features Colombia, Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago, and Venezuela, while Pool B includes host Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Cuba and Puerto Rico.

 

Following the preliminary round, the top team from each pool advances directly to the semifinals, while the second- and third-place teams cross over in the quarterfinals for the remaining semifinal berths. The fourth-place teams in each pool will compete for positions five through eight.

 

While the host nation enters as the favorite, the race for the podium promises to be highly competitive. Cuba, tied with the Dominican Republic for the all-time lead with eight Central American and Caribbean Games titles, returns determined to reclaim the crown. Puerto Rico, the silver medalist at San Salvador 2023, once again fields a team capable of challenging for the title, while Mexico and Colombia will be eager to contend for a place on the podium.

 

The preliminary round begins on Sunday, August 2, with four matches featuring all eight participating teams. Mexico opens the tournament against Trinidad and Tobago, followed by Puerto Rico facing Cuba, Colombia meeting Venezuela, and the closing match with host Dominican Republic taking on Costa Rica, Competition continues through Tuesday, August 4, before the quarterfinals are played on August 5.
