Dominican Republic Imposes Its Game

Against Nicaragua at the Pan American Cup

LEÓN, Mexico, September 11, 2026.- The Dominican Republic opened its participation in the Women’s Pan American Cup with a commanding straight-set 3-0 (25-9, 25-13, 25-9) victory over Nicaragua on Friday at the Domo de la Feria in León, Guanajuato.

The Dominicans set the tone from the start, jumping to an 8-0 lead in the first set and maintaining control in attack and blocking throughout the three sets to earn their first Pool A victory.

The Dominican Republic outscored Nicaragua 42-15 in attacks and 17-3 in blocks, while also holding a 2-0 advantage in aces. Nicaragua committed one fewer error, 13 compared to the Dominican Republic’s 14.

Middle blocker Geraldine González led the Dominican Republic with 14 points, including a match-high seven blocks. Massiel Matos added 11 points on eight attacks, one block and two aces, while Flormarie Heredia contributed 10 points on eight attacks and two blocks.

Captain Brittany Forbes led Nicaragua with 10 points.

On Saturday, the Dominican Republic (1-0) will face Venezuela (0-1) at 2:00 p.m., while Nicaragua (0-1) will have a rest day.

Yaneirys Rodríguez, Dominican Republic captain: “It was very important to start the tournament with a victory. It was a match that allowed us to execute different variations in attack and defense in preparation for more demanding matches.”

Brittany Forbes, Nicaragua captain: “We knew it would be tough because they have a lot of experience and play hard. We did our job, but they have a height advantage over us. We’re going to keep working hard.”
