Dominican Republic Remains Unbeaten

at Pan American Cup After Defeating Venezuela

LEÓN, Mexico, September 12, 2026.- The Dominican Republic earned its second win in Pool A of the 2026 Women’s Pan American Cup after defeating Venezuela 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-9) on Saturday at the Domo de la Feria in León, Guanajuato.

With the victory, the Dominican Republic improved to 2-0, while Venezuela remains winless after two days of competition.

Venezuela challenged the Dominican Republic through the first two sets, pulling within 19-18 in the opener before the Dominicans scored the final six points for a 25-18 win. The second set remained competitive before the Dominican Republic prevailed 25-20, and the Caribbean side then took complete control of the third, jumping ahead 10-4 on the way to a commanding 25-9 finish.

The Dominican Republic led in every scoring category, with a 33-20 advantage in attacks, 13-4 in blocks and 6-3 in aces. They also committed fewer errors, 20 compared to Venezuela’s 23.

Alondra Tapia of the Dominican Republic led all scorers with 12 points on eight kills, three blocks and one ace. Flormarie Heredia and Florangel Terrero also contributed 10 points each.

Daniela Azocar led Venezuela with seven points.

On Sunday, the third day of competition, the Dominican Republic will face Canada at 6:00 p.m., while Venezuela will have a rest day.

Alondra Tapia, of Dominican Republic: “I saw Venezuela as a very determined team that fights hard. We are making adjustments in every match and taking it one step at a time to get closer to our goal. We’re going to continue working as a team.”

Daniela Azocar, of Venezuela: “Today we played with more confidence than yesterday; we played very poorly yesterday. We are young for this category because this competition is part of our preparation for the South American U19 Championship. The Dominican Republic is a very tall team, but we still put up a fight.”
