Dominican Republic Remains Unbeaten at the Pan American Cup

LEÓN, Mexico, September 13, 2026.- The Dominican Republic remained unbeaten at the 2026 Women’s Pan American Cup after defeating Canada 3-1 (25-12, 23-25, 27-25, 25-17) on Sunday at the Domo de la Feria in León, Guanajuato.

The Dominican Republic improved its record to 3-0 in Pool A, while Canada dropped to 0-2 after previously falling to Puerto Rico.

The Dominicans dominated the first set, but Canada responded in the second and took it 25-23 to even the match. The third was the most closely contested set, with both teams trading points until 25-25 before the Dominican Republic prevailed 27-25 with two kill points from Massiel Matos. With the momentum on its side, the Dominican Republic took control of the fourth set to seal the victory 25-17.

The Dominican Republic held a commanding 70-48 advantage in attacks and committed fewer unforced errors, 17 to Canada’s 23. Canada led in blocks 11-7 and aces 3-0.

Flormarie Heredia delivered an impressive 30-point performance for the Dominican Republic. Massiel Matos added 17 points, Alondra Tapia 13 and Florangel Terrero 11.

For Canada, Payton Henderson scored 19 points, Emma Boyd added 16, including a match-high seven blocks, and Emoni Bush contributed 11.

On Monday, Canada will face Venezuela, while the Dominican Republic will have a rest day.

Yaneirys Rodríguez, Dominican Republic: “We came out strong and aggressive. We lowered our level of play, and they took advantage of it; there was some overconfidence. We are still unbeaten. Tomorrow, we have a rest day from competition, but we will keep working for what is ahead.”

Isabella Noble, Canada: “I think we came together as a team and really focused on our game plan. The Dominican Republic is a very strong team, so it was a frustrating loss, but we are really proud of the things we improved from yesterday. I think we can grow a lot throughout this tournament, and I’m really excited about this team.”
