WELLS FARGO, Iowa, July 25, 2015 – The U18 Girls’ National Team
of the Dominican Republic was crowned champions at the
International Division of the US Open Championships on Saturday
following a successful run.
The Dominicans were completing their training in preparation for
the FIVB U18 Girls’ World Championship to take place in Lima and
Callao, Peru from August 7 to 16.
Vielka Peralta, who performed extremely well during the
competition, was selected as the Most Valuable Player.
In the final match, Dominican Republic defeated Florida 3-0
(25-20, 25-20, 25-20) following a semifinal victory 3-1 (25-18,
20-25, 25-17, 25-19) over USA Continental Red.
In semifinals, Florida had won against Badger Girls in five sets
3-2 (25-19, 27-29, 14-25, 25-19, 15-10).
In the match for the bronze medal Badger Girls defeated USA
Continental Red 3-0 (25-22, 26-24, 25-19).
In the preliminary round, the Dominican girls concluded with a
4-1 mark tied with Iowa and USA White but were awarded with
first due to their set-ratio of 83 % (14-3).
They won 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-9) against Iroquois Girls on July
21, and followed next day with straight-set victories over
Arizona (25-18, 25-14, 25-12) and SCVA Youth (25-23, 25-21,
25-17).
On July 23, the Dominican team beat USA White in consecutive
sets (25-16, 27-25, 25-15) and lost to Iowa in five sets (25-27,
25-20, 18-25, 25-14, 15-10).
Their fourth victory in the first round came up on July 24
against Badger Girls in straight sets (25-21, 25-16, 25-20). |
