Dominican Republic and Mexico open U20 with victories
CORDOBA AND BOCA DEL RIO, Mexico, July 14, 2017 - Defending
champion Dominican Republic built a barrier with a twelve point
blocking performance to contain Poland’s leading scorer Natalia
Murek with 25 points and Aleksandra Lipska with 21 points, after
their five set victory 3-2 (20-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-17, 16-14).
Vielka Peralta, Yanlis Feliz and Madeline Guillen led the
Dominican victory with 16, 15 and 14 points, respectively.
Mexico did not disappoint the crowd at Arena Cordoba, working
hard in their 3-2 (16-25, 29-31, 25-20, 25-19, 15-13) comeback
over Egypt. It was an even match with Mexico’s Uxue Amaya and
Egyptian Noura Moawad as top scorers with nine points apiece.
Cuban Heidy Casanova scored 26 points in her team’s failed
comeback as Serbia finished on top 3-2 (25-13, 25-17, 25-27,
17-25, 15-11) on day one at the U20 FIVB Volleyball Women’s
World Championship in Mexico. |
