TOKYO, Japan, August 26, 2015 – The Dominican Republic attackers stayed on course for a 3-1 (25-22, 25-22, 18-25, 25-23) triumph over Cuba improving to a 3-1 win-loss record in the first round of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Cup at the Yoyogi National Stadium on Wednesday.

Cubans Jennifer Alvarez and Sulian Matienzo topped the scoring charts with 22 and 17 points, respectively, but Dominican Republic player Prisilla Rivera led a more balanced attack with 12 points.

Rivera’s teammates Yonkaira Pena and Gina Mambru contributed 11 points each while Erasma Moreno added 10.

In Matsumoto, reigning world champions the United States eased past Peru 3-0.

With most of their regular starters rested, the American women had no difficulties claiming the 25-17, 25-15 and 25-12 win and improving to a 3-1 win-loss record. Following an opening 3-0 win over Algeria, Peru have now dropped three matches in a row without winning one set.
