Dominican Republic beat Nicaragua
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, April 26, 2019 - Dominican
Republic secured the second place in Group A by defeating
Nicaragua in consecutive sets 3-0 (25-7, 25-20, 25-20) in a
match at Ricardo Arias Pavilion of Santo Domingo.
In Saturday’s quarterfinals, the home side will play Puerto Rico
while Chile will face Guatemala to open the actions.
After dominating extensively in the first set, the Dominican
squad played more relaxed and in the third set the coach Loren
Rodriguez gave playing opportunities to his reserves of the
bench. All players on the roster saw action in the match.
Dawilin Méndez had 12 points as th best Dominican scorer,
followed by Bryan Turbides and Fuhit Edouard with 9 and 7,
respectively. The Dominican side had a tournament-high 12 aces.
Loren Rodriguez, coach of Dominican Republic: “The boys went to
the court well motivated but I think they have to keep getting
better. I hope once in the semifinal the team can play up to
their level and show what they have learned in the past months.” |
