Dominican Republic blank El Salvador in Pool P
LA ROMANA, Dominican Republic, May 16, 2014 – Dominican Republic
cruised to a straight- set (25-11, 25-10, 25-12) win over El
Salvador for their second victory in as many days at the NORCECA
Women’s World Championship Qualification Tournament Pool P at
Eleoncio Mercedes Coliseum on Friday.
For second day in a row Gina Mambru led the Dominican offense
with 13 points, including four aces. Brayelin Martinez, Erasma
Moreno and Marianne Fersola charted 9, 8 and 7 points,
respectively, in the victory.
The winners held advantages of 7-2 in both blocking and aces
charts. Candida Arias was the top blocker in the contest with
four.
“Volleyball is a passion not an obligation, that’s the way I
play the game,” Mambru said afterwards. “I love to play and even
more when you are in front of your fans. I think we put a good
show of volleyball for them.”
“It is another step toward qualifying,” Dominican Republic’s
coach Marcos Kwiek said. “Today we made fewer errors than the
day before and we need to continue reducing the mistakes.”
Adriana Flores, Captain of El Salvador: “We are satisfied with
our performance today. We took the match as a learning
experience and did our best against a tough team.”
“We played better today and battled,” El Salvador’s Coach Nery
Henriquez said. “It was an enormous pleasure to play against the
Dominican Republic and I wish them the best representing our
region at the world championship.” |
